Our Steadfast Staff Our Fearless Founder ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Dedictaed Doctor Dr. Mac grew up in a military family. While she grew up in the midwest and New England, Laura's teenage years landed her in Texas, where she attended college in San Angelo, TX, and then completed veterinary school at Texas A&M University in 2002. She practiced on both large and small animals for her first few years out of school, but then downsized to only small animal work, in order to get more experience in canine sports medicine. Laura moved to Maine to get back to her Northern roots ... she missed winter! She also has been avidly interested in sled dog medicine for many years and wanted to get closer to the action. She is a member of the AVMA, MeVMA, and ISDVMA and can speak a fair bit of French. Dr. McConnell currently practices as a relief veterinarian in southern Maine. She keeps busy hiking, biking, and working with her own dogs, who are involved in dock jumping, agility, and pulling sports. Dr. Mac also volunteers as a trail veterinarian for the Can-Am Crown dog sled race every March in Fort Kent, Maine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our Lovely LVT Gina was born and raised in Aroostook County Maine. She has loved and been involved with animals all her life. As a child, she grew up with horses, cows, cats and dogs. At a very young age, she told her dad that she was going to work with animals when she grew up. He said she would change her mind 100 times before then. How wrong he was! In 1987 Gina attended college for Animal Medical Technology at the University of Maine, Orono. After receiving her license as a Veterinary Technician in 1989, she worked as a surgical technician for 15 years at a local animal hospital. In 2002, Gina relocated to work at the Animal Wellness Center where she could pursue her love for alternative medicine. Gina shares her life with 5 dogs; Dilly, Jocco, Gem, Moby and Adorable. She shows her dogs regularly in Agility and various other events including Lure Coursing, JRT Racing, Go to Ground and Tracking. She has also started working with Maine Greyhound Placement Service and volunteers when she can to help this wonderful organization. Her constant passion is the pursuit of total health by learning and applying alternative medicines to both herself and her pets. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
